The unexpected hot weather at Spa-Francorchamps will play a big role this weekend, according to Sahara Force India driver Sergio Perez.

The Mexican showed strong pace during both of Friday’s free practice sessions at the Belgian track, finishing fourth fastest in the morning session before following that up with fifth place in the afternoon, and with team-mate Nico Hülkenberg also showing good pace, it was a good couple of sessions for the Silverstone-based outfit.

Perez said that the first days running at Spa was positive for both him and the team, but he still feels there is work to be done in order to get on top of the set-up, especially as the management of tyre degradation is set to be extremely important on race day.

“The first indications are positive, but there’s still a lot of work to be done on the car to solve a few little issues,” said Perez. “We need to understand the car balance a bit more and develop our set-up from there.

“The weather is going to play a big role: it will affect tyre degradation strongly, but I am sure we will be able to make the changes we need for the race.”
