Formula 1 returns to the United States with drivers having their opinion on Austin, Texas. The circuit and fans have become a driver favourite with many of the top drivers excited to return to Circuit of the Americas.
Many of the top drivers including three-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton have praised Austin and the significance of last years race when Hamilton secured his third championship.
“To get to win it [the 2015 driver’s championship at COTA] that early in the season seems like a lifetime ago but it was an amazing day!”
Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg highlights the passion of the American fans and what they bring to the Grand Prix.
“It’s one of the highlights of the year…so many fans come to watch us the track is awesome!”
The United States Grand Prix will be huge for Haas F1 as it will be their first chance to race in front of their home fans, Mexican and Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez said, “It’s an honour to be part of an American team and to come and race here in front of the American fans, it’s going to be a very interesting experience”.
Austin is extremely important for Formula 1, as the American market is relatively unknown for F1. Liberty Media’s introduction into Formula 1 could spark a resurgence in North America, which will be huge financially and commercially for F1.
Most drivers have welcomed Formula 1 to Austin, with the vibrant city and exciting track, Formula 1 could stay in North America for many years to come.
