Romain Grosjean will take a five-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza this weekend after his Haas F1 Team were forced to change the gearbox on his VF16 on Saturday.
The Frenchman spun out of final practice at the Ascari Chicane after just four laps on Saturday morning, and was frustrated after complaining about the gearbox whilst sat in the gravel trap.
Grosjean was forced to sit out the remainder of the session as a result, and when the car was returned to the garage, the decision was made to change the gearbox, and as it is before the mandatory six consecutive races a gearbox is required to be used, it results in a grid drop penalty.
Grosjean ended the session in fourteenth position, but with team-mate Esteban Gutierrez in tenth, a first appearance in Q3 for the American team could be on the cards at Monza this weekend.
