GT4 Supercup Star Wrigley in Carrera Cup GB Test

1 Mins read

Ginetta GT4 Supercup championship leader Tom Wrigley joined crack Porsche Carrera Cup GB squad In2Racing last-week to test one of the team’s GT3 Cup machines, as he eyes a potential move to the category in 2017.

To date Wrigley has claimed nine victories and leads the GT4 Supercup standings by nineteen points with two rounds remaining at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

The test took place on the picturesque Oulton Park International layout. Commenting on his track running, Wrigley said: “The 911 GT3 Cup car requires a different driving style to the Ginetta G55 [raced in Supercup], but I feel I adapted to it very well and was able to produce some competitive lap times.

The Carrera Cup GB is under serious consideration for 2017 and we’re interested in speaking to any potential sponsors who’d like to join the team as I look to make the next step in my racing career.”

Author Comment:2017 is already shaping up to be another fantastic year for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. The news that Nick Tandy’s JTR squad was set to enter with a three-car, cross-class entry, was a boost to the overall competitive picture.

“The fact that another Ginetta star, a likely champion you might add, is set to join the series validates Carrera Cup GB as a serious career option for aspiring professional drivers. The dynamic this season has been fascinating as second year drivers such as Dan Cammish and Dino Zamparelli, have seen their initial pace advantages edged away as rookies such as Tom Oliphant and Charlie Eastwood have gained experience of the idiosyncratic Type 991 GT3 Cup.

“If Wrigley does make the transition, his learning experience will be equally as fascinating. As will which of this year’s newbies steps-right-up to the mantle of championship challenger.”
