Mercedes conclude Pirelli 2017 wet weather tyre test

Pascal Wehrlein has completed the second wet weather tyre testing for Pirelli at the Circuit Paul Ricard for Mercedes AMG PETRONAS.

The Mercedes- Benz protégé completed two days of testing next year’s wider wet tyres. Taking the wheel of a mule car that was modified to simulate 2017 levels of downforce. After completing a total of 135 laps on Wednesday, Wehrlein added a further 135 laps on Thursday.

This session completed by Mercedes was the second trial of next year’s wet weather tyres. At the beginning of August, Scuderia Ferrari ran the tyres at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With their 2016 drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel taking the wheel of the modified 2015 Ferrari.

In preparation for next season, Pirelli are testing different tyres with the modified car, the next test will be with Mercedes. The Brackley based outfit will test the latest generation Pirelli Slick tyres at the Montmelo circuit close to Barcelona on October 12-13.

Once Mercedes has completed their session, it will be the turn of Red Bull Racing, who haven’t tested since beginning of August. They will take part in a three-day test the day after Mercedes conclude their test. The Milton Keynes based outfit will resume the testing programme of the new 2017 sizes.
