Kimi Raikkonen hopes the team can maximise the change in tyre compounds in the Malaysian Grand Prix to the best of their advantage.

The hard compound tyre could bring a different strategic choice for the Scuderia Ferrari team which could favour them for the chance of victory.

“This is one of the few races in which we have to use the Hard tyres, but the conditions here are different from some other places where we have used them: it’s very hot and the track has a completely new surface. So it might be that the hard’s are the best tyres in race conditions and it might be not. From tomorrow we’ll know.”

Raikkonen aim is to obviously take victory but with the dominance of Mercedes ever present it will be tricky for the Finn to take his first victory since returning to his second spell at Ferrari.  Kuala Lumpur can always spring a surprise or two with extreme weather conditions and a variance in tyre temperatures that can surprise teams.

“If we can have a weekend in good form and with no mistakes, we can be up there and give ourselves a good chance to fight at the front. Then, for the end result, we can only do our best. Obviously our aim is to win. Will it be possible? I have no idea. Hopefully we’ll find out that we are in a strong position.”

The Finn has had a strong season compared to last season outperforming Sebastian Vettel in qualifying and just being beaten to the podium by Lewis Hamilton last time out in Singapore.
