Renault to give all drivers upgrade for Singapore after all

After initially only giving Max Verstappen the benefit of the upgraded power unit, all four Renault-powered drivers will now receive the same updates to their engines as the Dutchman for the remainder of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Verstappen ran his Red Bull Racing machine with the upgrade throughout Friday’s running at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but now his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo plus Renault Sport F1 drivers Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer will get the upgrades ahead of Saturday’s final free practice session.

Renault spent three tokens on the upgrade this weekend, and Verstappen ran with a new internal combustion engine, MGU-H, MGU-K and turbocharger on Friday, although the focus on the development from the engine supplier was on the ignition system and spark plugs to enable them to work alongside the new fuel brought this weekend to the circuit by Total.

The areas developed by Renault means that none of the four drivers require a completely new power unit, and all four are now on par with one-another with the amounts of elements used in 2016.
