Carlos Sainz Jr was in a positive mood after finding himself inside the top ten in both free practice sessions at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Friday, a big turn around in comparison to his recent races where he and his Scuderia Toro Rosso team have struggled.

With engine power less of a factor in Singapore, Sainz and Toro Rosso came back into contention, and the Spanish driver finished seventh in first practice before taking eighth in the second practice, ending the day within 1.4 seconds of the outright pace.

Sainz is hopeful the Friday form continues into the rest of the weekend, with the circuit offering an opportunity for a return to the points for the Faenza-based team.

“I think we can be happy with today,” insisted Sainz. “For the last three races we had been struggling a bit on Friday, finding it hard to classify further than P15 or P16… So it was good to be back in the top ten today in both practice sessions.

“Of course, we will push to do the same tomorrow, we’re strong here and it motivates the team to move forward – the car works well and we will go through plenty of data tonight in order to be ready for the rest of the weekend – I look forward to it, I enjoy racing at this track!”
