Toro Rosso to continue with split specs in Singapore

Both Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat will continue to run with different aero packages for the Singapore Grand Prix weekend as their Scuderia Toro Rosso team try to work out which one is best.

Sainz is running the new package that was introduced at the German Grand Prix, while Kvyat has the older package used up until the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the aim to find out whether the new package has improved the car or not.

Both drivers ran their respective packages during Friday’s running at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but with no clear-cut advantage to either driver, it has been decided to extend the split programme into the whole weekend.

“Probably this is the only bad news of today – that both packages are working very similar,” said Sainz to Motorsport.com. “So they intend to keep both packages different for tomorrow and the whole weekend to try and see if they can spot something more during the weekend.

“It is not ideal as it means the new package hasn’t brought as much as we thought. That is it really. It shows that there hasn’t been a lot of development this year but thank god not a lot of people have developed much because of next year’s regulations.”
