DMACK crews ready for mixed surface challenge of 2016 Rally Catalunya

1 Mins read

DMACK World Rally Team are prepared for the gravel/tarmac challenges of the 2016 Rally Catalunya – Rally de España.

The Cumbria-based tyre manufacturer will be supplying to its WRC and WRC2 crews six different tyre compound options in Salou next week.

Estonia’s Ott Tänak will be looking to build on his excellent performance on the opening day in Catalunya on the gravel last year, but ended up finishing forty-first.

Tänak said “I enjoy this rally a lot and we had a strong start last year on the gravel stages which can be pretty rough and demanding.

“The tarmac roads are nice to drive, flowing stages where you need to have a nice driving line and feeling. It’s a great challenge and there’s always lots of think about, but I enjoy this type of event.”

Competing in the WRC2 category with DMACK are Norway’s Marius Aasen and Estonia’s Sander Pärn.

Aasen is looking forward to one of his favourite events of the WRC2 season. “Spain is one of my absolute favourite events of the season. It will be my third time doing this rally and I really like the mixed surface format.

“I’ve got a good feeling with the R5 car on gravel, but it will be my first time on tarmac with this car, so that will for sure be a challenge. I want to show some more speed during the rally.”

Pärn added “I have good memories from Spain and my aim this year is to finish the rally and improve stage-by-stage as it is my first time on tarmac with the R5 car.

“The mixed surface rally is better for me than just the full tarmac event and I like that the rally starts with gravel as it’s a more familiar surface for me.”
