Manor’s Dave Ryan: “The best result for the team is the team result”

Dave Ryan believes Manor Racing MRT have done really well to maintain their position in the Constructors’ Championship since the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Banbury based outfit had a positive United States Grand Prix which saw both drivers see the chequered flag despite some challenging moments. Pascal Wehrlein finished ahead of team-mate Esteban Ocon in seventeenth. A good start at the Circuit of the Americas saw Ocon quickly climb up the grid. but was unable to stick with these positions to the chequered flag.

With one point in the Constructors’ Standings, Manor are ahead of Sauber F1 Team, who have yet to score a point this season. It was a close call in Austin as both Sauber drivers were performing well, but they were unable to maintain this positions though. If Sauber finish within the top ten and Manor fail to do so again before the end of the season, Sauber will finish ahead of Manor.

Ryan, Racing Director at Manor believes the team need to optimise the car and team performance at every step of the Grand Prix weekend.

“We’ve done really well to maintain our position since Austria,” said Ryan. “But the shape of a Grand Prix can change in an instant.

“Although at the end of the race the Saubers finished 14th and 15th, for a time there they were running higher than that. That certainly focuses our attentions on the pit wall and also back at base, where we’re pushing hard to bring smaller developments to the car all the way to the end of the season.

“We need to optimise car and team performance at every step of the weekend and we’re very fortunate to have two drivers who understand that, right now, the best result for the team is the team result.”
