Tänak keeps the pressure on Ogier on Day 2 at Wales Rally GB

1 Mins read

Ott Tanak continued to pile pressure upon rally leader Sebastién Ogier on the second day at the 2016 Dayinsure Wales  Rally GB.

Despite Ogier’s advantageous road-position, Tänak, running eighth on the road, was the only crew able to match the rally leader.

The DMACK driver was fastest on four of the eight day 2 stages, (more than anybody else) to maintain a comfortable second place overall.

This means that Tänak  trails the four-times World Rally Champion by +33.8 seconds going into the final day of the rally.

With 52.08 kilometres left to erase the gap, it will not be an easy job to secure an elusive first victory.

Yet the Estonian has put himself in the perfect position to pounce if trouble strikes Ogier’s Volkswagen.

Tänak has a comfortable minute gap over third-placed Thierry Neuville for Hyundai Motorsport.

He is also three minutes ahead of the first of the official M-Sport drivers, Mads Østberg in seventh place.

M-Sport Team Principal, Malcolm Wilson OBE was again full of praise for his Estonian charger, upholding M-Sport’s honour on their home round.

“It’s been another fantastic day for Ott in very difficult conditions,” he said.

“They’ve managed to reduce the gap a little and there is still quite a way to go.

“There might only be 50 kilometres tomorrow and Ogier isn’t the easiest of men to catch, but we’ll keep the pressure up and as we have already seen, anything can happen.”
