Felipe Massa finished inside the top ten in both free practice sessions at the Yas Marina Circuit as his final weekend in Formula 1 before retirement got underway on Friday.

The Williams Martini Racing driver will compete in his 250th and final Grand Prix on Sunday, and finished ninth fastest in first practice before completing the top ten in the second session, although he joked he would have preferred to have ended the day on top, and insisted he would enjoy his final outing in the sport.

“It was my last Friday so I would have loved to finished in first position!” said Massa. “In fact, I’d like to that on my last Saturday and especially my last Sunday too!

“Today we were trying to find out as much about the tyres and the car as we could, particularly on long runs. It won’t be an easy race, but I will definitely do everything I can to have a good result here in Abu Dhabi for my final Grand Prix.

“I will try to enjoy it as much as I can – but the best enjoyment will come from a good race result, so that’s what I’m hoping we can achieve on Sunday.”
