Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver Nico Rosberg was pleased to come home in second place and keep the car on the road at Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix, in what he found to be tough conditions to drive in.
“The conditions were really tricky out there today. Up the hill there was heavy aquaplaning and a lot of drivers went off the track.
“I had a bit of a moment when I spun at one point but luckily this wasn’t at high speed, so I was able to catch the car again.”
The German admitted that team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton had just done a better job out there than him this weekend and so he could not complain with the second place finish he came away with.
The current championship leader also congratulated Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen on his strong performance in what were very tricky conditions.
“Lewis did a better job today and deserved the win, so I must be happy with P2. Max also did a good job. We knew that the Red Bull would be very strong in the wet but he drove a great race.”
Rosberg thanked his team for giving him the best strategy to achieve a strong result on Sunday, and confirmed he is now looking ahead to the season finale in Abu Dhabi, where he will be looking to take victory and seal the drivers’ championship.
“Thank you very much to my team for choosing the right strategy and letting me stay out on the full wet tyres.
“Now I look forward to Abu Dhabi, where I have good memories from last year. I will be going all out for the win there.”
