Pierre Gasly described his latest outing in the modified Red Bull Racing RB11 as ‘great’ after the Frenchman completed an impressive 286 laps testing Pirelli’s 2017-specification wet weather tyres.
Gasly, who was recently overlooked by Scuderia Toro Rosso to replace Daniil Kvyat only for the Faenza-based team to continue with the Russian, remains an integral part of the Red Bull stable despite his Formula 1 dreams being quashed, at least for 2017.
Red Bull’s reserve driver completed an impressive number of laps in Abu Dhabi testing Pirelli’s latest wet weather tyres ahead of the 2017 Formula one season. Driving the 2015-spec RB11, this simulates the downforce levels that the team will expect in 2017, the test is extremely important, as the team can familiarise themselves with the new intermediate and full wet weather tyres.
Red Bull are one of three teams including the Scuderia Ferrari and the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team, they supply Pirelli with mule cars to test the new 2017 tyres that can play a pivotal role in the 2017 title challenge.
Gasly has had a brilliant season in the GP2 Series with Prema Racing and is on the radar of many teams including the Renault Sport Formula 1 Team but he is left in limbo whether Red Bull would want to let him go to a rival team only time will tell.
