Volkswagen RX Sweden Targets Overall Podiums in World RX Finale

1 Mins read

Volkswagen RX Sweden arrive at the World RX of Argentina this weekend with the aim of finishing the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship with the best position possible in both the Drivers and Teams Championships.

Johan Kristoffersson is locked in the battle for second place in the Drivers Championship where he faces stern competition from Double FIA World RX Champion Peter Solberg, Hoonigan Racing’s Andreas Bakkerud and 2016 World RX debutant Sebastien Loeb. Kristoffersson secured victory earlier this year at the World RX of France and has regularly been the fastest driver on the second day at recent events and is hopeful that this pace will help him secure second place in the standings.

“We need to have a strong weekend in Argentina, but I think we are in a good position,” said Kristoffersson. “I have a few points in hand to Bakkerud and Loeb, and not many behind Petter (Solberg). We have been very good at the end of this season and we’ve tried hard to find more speed for this event. It would be nice for us both to have a good weekend so we can finish third in the Teams’ Championship too. To be top three in both would be really great.”

Meanwhile, the Swedish based Volkswagen team is in a fight to secure third place overall in the Teams Championship against rivals Hoonigan Racing. With only 12 points separating the two teams going into the final event of the year, Kristoffersson’s team-mate Anton Marklund is well aware of the part he must play in meeting this goal.

“I think we have a very good chance of keeping third in the Teams’ Championship. I’ve had two fourth places this year and I really want to end the season by finishing on the podium. I haven’t been up there for a while, so it really feels like it’s on time now. I will really be pushing to finish the season on a high.”
