Wehrlein remaining ‘realistic’ about Manor chances in Abu Dhabi

Pascal Wehrlein admits it will be tough for Manor Racing MRT to reclaim tenth place in the Constructors’ Championship at the Yas Marina Circuit after seeing the Sauber F1 Team move ahead of them in Brazil.

Felipe Nasr’s ninth place finish at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace relegated Manor to the bottom of the championship standings, but Wehrlein insists the team will continue to push for a strong result at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, and feels they may be able to spring a surprise should the weekend go well right from the beginning.

“We just have to do our very best and see where that gets us,” said Wehrlein. “I think we have to be realistic about what is possible in Abu Dhabi, but that shouldn’t stop us fighting all the way to the finish.

“Over the last couple of races we have seen what a difference three solid practice sessions makes to our qualifying and race preparation. We have to get everything right, and at the same time, identify every little advantage and opportunity.

“If that happens, we have shown four times this year that we can make it into Q2, and a better starting position can make a big difference in the race. Brazil happened, so the chance to show more of what we have achieved together this year is what we are targeting.”
