Claire Williams believes Nico Rosberg is a deserving Formula 1 World Champion and believed he showed that kind of potential when he made his Grand Prix debut back in 2006.

Rosberg made his debut with the Williams F1 Team, the outfit that Williams is now the Deputy Team Principal of, and he finished inside the points and took fastest lap in his maiden race in Bahrain, and she believes the results during his career, both at Williams and at the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team, warranted a championship triumph for the now retired German.

“I think it was pretty clear. You know when certain drivers come to you and whether they are champion material and he was,” said Williams on crash.net.

“For him, I think I heard on Sky he had won 23 races the highest number of races without winning a championship, but then you have drivers who win championships on less wins than you have ever heard of or could win one.

“He has done a great job and done everything he’s needed to do. For him it probably feels like a long time in the making but he is a truly deserving world champion and I am so pleased for him.”
