Peter Hedstrom has announced on the FIA World Rallycross website that he has signed brothers Alexander Hvaal and Joachim Hvaal in what will be a three car effort for Hedstrom Motorsport as they tackle the 2017 FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercars.

Whilst Hedstrom and Alexander Hvaal will race ex-Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars that the team used at the end of last year, Joachim Hvaal will pilot the outfits ex-OlsbergsMSE built Ford Fiesta as he moves up from the RX2 International Series.

Hedstrom Motorsport will also run three cars in the 2017 RallyX Nordic Championship where both Hvaal’s and Swedish driver Christer Dalmans will compete as Hedstrom steps back into a Team Manager role at these events.

Having competed in the Eklund Motorsport VW Beetle last year, Alexander Hvaal is confident this is the right move for 2017.

“I feel no pressure but see this instead as a great opportunity,” said Alexander Hvaal. “Moving to Hedstroms Motorsport feels right and I already know that the car suits me very well. We are aiming to do many kilometres of testing before the season.”

Hedstrom meanwhile will contest all five EuroRX events as well as several FIA World Rallycross Championship events in 2017.

“I’m aiming to drive in all of the European Championship with a few appearances in the World Championship too,” he said. “I will also manage the team in RallyX Nordic. Running three at almost every competition shows that the team is growing like crazy. We have good people working for us and everyone is pulling in the same direction. This really is a summer to look forward to.”
