FIA Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg considers fellow German driver Sebastian Vettel a potential candidate for Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team’s 2018 line up.
Vettel was considered a likely successor to Rosberg after he announced his retirement from the sport. Instead the vacancy was filled by then Williams Martini Racing’s driver Valtteri Bottas. But Rosberg is not ruling out seeing Vettel in a Silver Arrow, especially as Bottas’ contract is reportedly only a year long.
“Vettel’s Ferrari contract ends this year, he’d be a sensible option for Mercedes and one that I’m sure they’ll contemplate,” Rosberg told La Repubblica.
Rosberg also expressed his longing to see a reunion between former team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, a decade since their last partnership. Though he was quick to state that Bottas made more sense in the grand scheme of things.
“As a fan of Formula One you could not hope for anything better. Alonso against Hamilton, ten years later, it would be a great show. But Bottas makes more sense for Mercedes.” he added.
