Michelin Clio Cup Series graduate Brett Lidsey will compete in selected Clio Cup Benelux and Central Europe rounds this season ahead of a planned transition into the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2018.
Lidsey has competed in third generation Clio Cup machinery since the Clio Cup Series’ inception in 2013, establishing himself as a title contender last year with MRM.
Despite coming up just short in his championship duel with James Dorlin, Lidsey came away with an impressive thirteen podium finishes from fifteen races including three victories.
With budget restrictions meaning he’s been unable to enter a full campaign in the BTCC-supporting UK Clio Cup this season, the 25 year old has instead explored options on the continent.
Lidsey’s first outing is set to be in the Benelux series at Spa-Francorchamps at the end of April, before he goes on to contest two Central Europe rounds at Zandvoort and the Nurburgring.
“I really enjoyed my time in the Michelin Clio Cup Series, but we felt it was time to step up to the latest fourth generation Clio Cup car this season,” said Lidsey.
“Unfortunately we were unable to secure the budget needed to compete full-time in the UK series, so we are going to take advantage of the cheaper entry fees and costs in Europe.
“We’ll be keeping ourselves in competitive grids to help get me up to speed in the new car, then we will enter the last round of the UK Clios to see how we shape up ahead of 2018.”
