Sean Gelael will get the opportunity to test with the Scuderia Toro Rosso team during the two in-season tests in Bahrain and Hungary and the end of season test in Abu Dhabi in 2017.

The twenty-year-old will combine his commitments in duties with Toro Rosso with his drive in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Arden International, having switched across to the Banbury-based team having raced in 2016 with Campos Racing.

Gelael finished on the podium in the mixed conditions at the Red Bull Ring behind team-mate Mitch Evans last season, but it was the only relative high of his campaign as he only achieved one other points finish, with a seventh place coming at Baku.

The first opportunity Gelael will get to test will be at the Bahrain International Circuit on 18-19 April, before returning to the car again for the post-Hungarian Grand Prix test at the Hungaroring at the beginning of August, and then again at the post-season test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in November.

He will be looking to follow in the footsteps of countryman Rio Haryanto, who became the first Indonesian Formula 1 driver last season when he raced for Manor Racing MRT.

Toro Rosso posted this tweet showing the Indonesian having a seat fitting at their Faenza base.

Gelael himself thanked Toro Rosso for the opportunity with a tweet of his own…
