Australian driver Harry Hayek will spend 2017 in the BRDC British F3 Championship after signing with the Double R Racing team. This will be his second tilt at racing in the UK after a brief forray in the F4 British Championship last year.
Having recently celebrated his nineteenth birthday, the Aussie will be determined to follow in the footsteps of former rival Thomas Randle, who recorded two victories during a successful campaign last year in BRDC F3.
Hayek made an impact in 2015, finishing fourth in the Australian Formula 4 Championship and setting himself up for a career abroad. Unfortunately, a poor start in both the British and Spanish F4 series saw him return to his home country, again collecting fourth in the standings despite missing two rounds.
He’ll join Jamie Chadwick at the team and, provided he can get quickly accustomed to the car, will become a contender for wins. His signing means that there is only one space left at the defending champions.
“We’re absolutely delighted Harry has joined the team for British F3 this year”, said team principal, Anthony “Boyo” Hieatt, “He’s a great lad, fantastic young driver and has a good family around him.
“When he tested with us last year at Silverstone GP he was immediately on the pace, absolutely flying, so I’m confident he can develop into a proper championship contender. He’s razor sharp after doing the Toyota series.”
Recently, Hayek has been competing in the Toyota Racing Series where he picked up three top finishes and fifteenth in the overall standings in a high quality field.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Double R for the 2017 BRDC British F3 Championship”, said an ecstatic Hayek, “Late last year we did a couple of test days with the team and were extremely impressed with their professionalism, productivity and ability to operate a race team which is clearly reflected in their results”
