Tost remaining optimistic despite STR’s difficult opening test

Despite reliability issues meaning the Scuderia Toro Rosso team had the least amount of running of any team in the opening pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Team Principal Franz Tost believes they can be fighting at the front of the midfield runners in 2017.

Both Carlos Sainz Jr and Daniil Kvyat were affected by Renault unreliability issues on the STR12, but Tost revealed that both drivers were nether-the-less happy with the performance of the chassis at the Spanish circuit, and that when the reliability problems are solved, it should mean the Faenza-based team will be fighting for points.

Tost knows it is too early to judge just where the other teams are in comparison to Toro Rosso, especially those traditionally fighting with the team on track, and he is confident of a strong 2017 season.

“We don’t know how much fuel all the other teams are running, but I am optimistic that Toro Rosso will be in the front part of this midfield,” said Tost on Motorsport.com.

“This week about our car: it looks good, it looks fast, and the drivers are doing a good job. If we get everything under control from the technical side, I am convinced we can achieve our goal.”
