Daniil Kvyat will start his home Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom from twelfth on the grid, with the Scuderia Toro Rosso happy with the outcome of qualifying after a difficult weekend so far.

The STR12 has been a handful to drive all weekend long for Kvyat, and coupled with the car not being as quick in a straight line as he would like, he was unable to make it through to the top ten shootout, although he was content with his lap.

A penalty for team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr promoted the Russian from thirteenth to twelfth on the grid, but Kvyat is hoping that Sunday will be a better day for the team, and has aims to return to the points after missing out last time out in Bahrain.

“After this morning’s FP3, I’m happy with my result in today’s qualifying session,” said Kvyat. “The car has been difficult to drive all weekend and we also had a few issues this morning which we couldn’t completely solve for qualifying.

“But I drove well and I’m happy with my lap. Tomorrow we will try our best to fight for points!”
