Cameron Das once again took pole position ahead of the second BRDC British F3 Championship round at Rockingham Motor Speedway. The Carlin team driver was 0.282 seconds clear from second place Omar Ismail.
Yesterday practice had seen Toby Sowery set the benchmark early in the morning, but the Lanan Racing driver chose to stay in the pits for the start of the session. He eventually emerged, but not before Ben Hingeley and Enaam Ahmed had started to set the pace out front.
Oulton Park polesitter Das joined the foray as qualifying came to its traditional mid-session lull, allowing Sowery to make the most of the clear track. The Carlin drivers would take on new tyres though, as Callan O’Keeffe finally joined the track, after spending two-thirds of the session in the pits.
Times continued to drop, with Omar Ismail taking provisional pole as Ahmed, Das, Hingeley and Guilherme Samaia populated a break away top five. A number of drivers would have times disallowed as Ismail pitted before the end. It proved to not be a disaster though as a red flag called the results early.
O’Keeffe had managed to set one competitive time, going fifth, before spinning his car on the exit of Yentwood.
Das, who had just set another time took pole position with a 1min 13.470. He’ll be joined on the front row by Ismail, with early session pace setters, Hingeley and Ahmed filling the second row. Despite his off, O’Keeffe would keep fifth with Samaia alongside.
Unfortunately for Sowery, the red flag caught him out, ensuring he’ll be forced to start eleventh, directly behind James Pull who will struggle to repeat his Oulton performance.
