PSRX Volkswagen Team Sweden are looking forward to the 2017 World RX of Portugal, an event that has been good to both of their drivers since the FIA World Rallycross Championship began back in 2014.

With Petter Solberg having won the event in both the 2014 and 2016 seasons whilst Johan Kristoffersson took victory in 2015, the omens are good this weekend for the team to take victory.

The Swedish-based Volkswagen-backed team had both of its Polo GTI Supercars in the Final at the World RX of Spain and they are looking to repeat this feat at the Montalegre venue against increased competition from the likes of Ford, Peugeot and Audi.

Kristoffersson is looking forward to returning to the Portuguese venue.

“For me, Montalegre has really good memories from the last two years I have competed there. Winning in 2015 was an amazing way to start the season and like Petter says, it’s a place he and I seem to have a real feeling for,” he explained

“It’s a good track, a place you can attack and make the difference and that’s what I want to do this weekend.”

Solberg is equally excited to return to Montalegre, especially with the pace of the new cars already evident.

“We have made a fantastic start to the season. Everything came together so late for the team so to come away from Spain with points on the board was a great result. To be leading the teams’ championship is brilliant,” explains Solberg.

“The teams’ title is one we’re really in the hunt for this season with a strong driver like Johan alongside me.”

However the World RX of Portugal is a special event for the three time FIA World Champion.

“But this weekend is special. Portugal is a track I really enjoy and have a great success with in the last three years, let’s hope that carries on this time. Certainly, we come in good shape after a test ahead of the race.”

The 2017 World RX of Portugal takes place at the Montalegre circuit between April 21-23 and you can follow all the action with The Checkered Flag, check back over the weekend for the latest news.
