Pietro Fittipaldi will start race two around the Circuito de Jerez from pole position after another dominant display in qualifying on Sunday morning at the Spanish circuit.

At the halfway point it appeared that SMP Racing by AVF were going to lock out the front row, with Egor Orudzhev leading team-mate Matevos Isaakyan, but despite both Russian drivers were able to improve on their times, Lotus driver Fittipaldi stormed to the top with the fastest lap of the weekend.

Fittipaldi’s lap of 1:26.515s was almost half a second better than Orudzhev, but for both drivers the start will be important on Sunday afternoon, especially as in recent races both have had struggles.

For Orudzhev as well, he will want to put his disappointingly short race on Saturday behind him, as he retired whilst running second having lost the lead at the start to eventual winner Roy Nissany.

Isaakyan will start on the inside of row two, with Damiano Fioravanti enjoying a strong qualifying session for RP Motorsport in fourth, the Italian the leading rookie in the field.

Alfonso Celis Jr will start fifth for Fortec Motorsports ahead of the second Lotus of championship leader Rene Binder, while race one winner Nissany could only manage seventh on the grid this time around, the RP Motorsport driver being joined on row four by Diego Menchaca.

Nelson Mason will start ninth in the leading of the Teo Martin Motorsport entries ahead of RP Motorsport’s Yu Kanamaru, while Konstantin Tereschenko and Giuseppe Cipriani round out the field on row six.
