Toto Wolff has admitted that Valtteri Bottas has exceeded the expectations of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team in his opening seven races for the outfit.

Bottas has already become a race winner in 2017 after clinching his maiden triumph during the Russian Grand Prix, a race after taking his maiden pole position in Bahrain, and the Finn currently sits third in the World Drivers’ Championship on 93 points.

Wolff, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, says Bottas has had an impressive start to his season, especially after signing to replace Nico Rosberg alongside Lewis Hamilton when the German retired from the sport after winning the Championship in 2016.

For Wolff though, he feels it is important that the twenty-seven-year-old starts to put together good weekends at every Grand Prix, with consistency the key to a strong campaign.

“Valtteri is in a strong position,” said Wolff. “You would never think he joined the team very last minute over the winter and, after, seven Grand Prix, he has exceeded even our expectations.

“He’s been on pole, won a race and challenged Lewis on both Saturday and Sundays. For him, it’s now just about putting it all together every single weekend and I have no doubt he will do that.”
