Toby Sowery took a convincing pole position at the Silverstone event for the BRDC British F3 Championship. The Lanan Racing driver continued his Friday domination leading by 0.130 seconds.
The dark horse during practice had been Guilherme Samaia with the Brazilian the first to set a competitive lap time and remain relatively near the front throughout. He wasn’t quickest though with Sowery pulling out a large gap early on.
Other than Cameron Das, no other driver was getting to within a second of the Lanan Racing driver as Enaam Ahmed and the Douglas Motorsport pair waited for the track to rubber in before heading out.
Ahmed would bring the gap down, with six minutes left on the clock, as the rest of the field finally started to challenge Sowery. The 20-year-old was having none of it though, keeping the pack honest and taking a comfortable pole position
Ahmed did work his way up to second as teammate James Pull continued until the end, improving on his final lap to take third demoting Ben Hingeley to fourth.
After his promising start to Friday Das could not repeat the success he’d had in beating Ahmed, instead lining up fifth alongside Callan O’Keeffe who had been second fastest. The top eight was rounded out by Samaia and Jordan Cane.
