Valtteri Bottas is eager to have a long relationship with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team despite his current contract with the team being for only the single season.
The Finn was drafted into the multiple championship winning outfit when Nico Rosberg announced his shock retirement at the end of 2016 after claiming the World Drivers’ Championship, but in the opening ten races of the current campaign has secured two race victories and five further podiums to sit third in the championship, just twenty-two points behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Bottas wants his future sorted out sooner rather than later, and expects to enter talks with Mercedes bosses during the forthcoming summer break, but he wants to remain with the team for a long time.
“First we need to really speak about it before doing any announcement or make contracts,” said Bottas on crash.net. “We are coming to the point where we are getting to the middle of the season and the August break will be here soon and normally discussions will start. You are not going to hear anything for the next few weeks for sure.
“Like I said before the main target is for me to have a long relationship with the team, that is what I want. We will still have to wait a few more weeks and see how things go but that is my target.”
