Carlos Sainz Jr. is looking to improve on his season’s hit-and-miss results and achieve a top seven finish at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

Following on from a disappointing Austrian Grand Prix in which he had to retire due to engine problems, the Scuderia Toro Rosso driver is hoping that a mixture of consistent results and hard work will pay off this weekend, saying, “It seems to be all about eight for me at Silverstone! In Formula 1, I’ve always qualified eighth and finished the race eighth!

“It’s not a bad position and it’s fair to say we’ve done a very good job so far every year at this track. I hope this continues to be the case this year…or even better…why not!

Silverstone is a favourite track among many of the drivers for its fast, tricky corners and long, also fast straights. This is no different for Sainz, who says the track is his favourite because “it’s simply a driver’s track.

“The part I like the most is Sector 2 because it’s the quickest part of the track and it makes it probably one of the most exciting sectors of the season, with Maggotts, Becketts, Stowe… I’ve always enjoyed my qualifyings at this track and I can assure you I always have a smile on my face when I drive there!”

Silverstone isn’t just about the track; the fans are as much a part of the experience as the race itself. This is another aspect that the Spaniard enjoys about the British Grand Prix: “What also amazes me is the fact that the fans, even if it rains and thunders, they never leave the track until the end of the day and this makes it special. That’s what I call real passion for motorsport!”

Carlos Sainz Jr is currently ninth in the Driver’s Championship on 29 points – just 10 points behind eighth place Esteban Ocon and 7 points ahead of Williams’ Felipe Massa.
