Felipe Massa is hoping to give the Williams Martini Racing team a great result at Silverstone this weekend as the Grove-based outfit continue to celebrate forty-years in Formula 1.

The Brazilian surprisingly has never finished on the podium at Silverstone during his Formula 1 career, with his best finish being fourth back in 2009, 2012 and 2015, but the veteran Brazilian knows this weekend will be one of huge importance for Williams and their fans.

“Silverstone is always a very important race,” said Massa. “It’s the home Grand Prix for the team, and we know how important that is for everyone, especially with the 40th anniversary celebrations.

“It’s going to be a very important weekend for Williams and I really hope we can have an amazing race, and an amazing result, to celebrate even more.”

Massa believes the FW40 should suit the Silverstone circuit, and as a result he goes into the weekend confident of a strong result.  The Brazilian did lead the race back in 2015 after both he and then-team-mate Valtteri Bottas jumped into the lead at the start, but Massa had fallen back to fourth by the chequered flag.

“The track itself is really nice,” said Massa. “There’s a lot of high speed corners and the car normally performs very well there.”
