Kevin Magnussen says that Romain Grosjean is everything he needs in a team-mate, with having a proven team-mate good for his own reputation.

The Haas F1 Team driver believes that Grosjean is, on his day, faster than his former team-mate at the McLaren Formula 1 Team, Jenson Button, but the Frenchman has yet to show the kind of consistency the Briton did.

Magnussen had Jolyon Palmer as a team-mate during his season with the Renault Sport Formula 1 Team in 2016, but the Dane feels the much more experienced Grosjean gives him a much better benchmark for comparison this season, with twenty-one points scored between them in the opening eight races.

“He’s got everything I need from a team-mate,” said Magnussen on Autosport. “Raw speed, so I can compare and learn from him, and he’s got experience as well.

“So for me he is a very good team-mate – perhaps on his day faster than Jenson, but Jenson was very consistent.

“You only have your team-mate to compare and to show yourself and prove yourself [against]. It’s much better having a proven team-mate who has a good reputation and is known to be very quick, so it’s good to have him.”
