Esteban Ocon says there is still better performances to be had from him and his team this weekend, having only set the 10th and 11th fastest times in Free Practice 1 & 2 respectively.

The Force India driver did not experience the same troubles as his team-mates Sergio Pérez and Alfonso Celis Jr, but nonetheless was deep in the midfield pack in both sessions.

“We found some more speed with every run,” said Ocon, “but there is still room for improvement and I know there is more to come tomorrow – from me, from the car; in all areas really.”

With 6th to 15th place in FP2 covered by little over half a second, the battle for Q3 will be very finely poised, and Ocon is aware of progress being needed in tomorrow’s final free practice runs to make the cut.

“It’s going to be a really tight grid tomorrow with small margins so the work we do tonight will be very important.”

Ocon has made the final qualifying session in four of the last five races, his career-best seventh starting position coming at the last race in Azerbaijan two weeks ago.
