Toto Wolff says that Valtteri Bottas keeps getting stronger with ever race after watching the Finn secure his second Formula 1 race victory last weekend at the Red Bull Ring, and his first from pole position.

It was the most complete race performance so far for Bottas, who had earlier taken his maiden pole position in Bahrain and then his maiden win in Russia, but in Austria he was able to take both, and it was helped by a spectacular start that was challenged for its legality by other drivers, including Sebastian Vettel, although it was deemed legal by the stewards.

Wolff, the Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport and the boss of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team, was impressed by Bottas’ performance in Austria, and he is securing good results by concentrating on the important things he can have an impact on behind the wheel.

“Valtteri keeps getting stronger with every race,” said Wolff. “After the fight back in Baku, he just got on with the job in a cool and collected way in Austria.

“He knew we needed pole position and the win; he kept his feet on the ground, produced the start of his life and delivered.

“He’s taking it step by step, concentrating on the things in his control that make the difference, and the results speak for themselves.”
