It would be Enaam Ahmed who took only his second race one qualifying pole of the year, with a 0.131 second gap to James Pull around Brands Hatch GP. The BRDC British F3 Championship qualifying took place in overcast conditions as Ahmed looks to secure his points lead.
Cameron Das was quick to put his Practice troubles behind him with the Carlin driver immediately out on track. Having completed just three laps in the morning it was vital Das adapted quickly to the circuit. The rest of the championship runners deciders to stay in the pits initially, with Ahmed the last to make a move.
As he headed out, the heavens were threatening to drop with the occasional rain drop making an appearance on the Kent circuit.
Times were continuing to fall for the time being as Callan O’Keeffe set the early pace, the first man below the 1min 22sec barrier. Ahmed would only manage tenth on his opening lap as Pull and Toby Sowery moved their way to the head of the field.
A lap later and he was in contention for pole, with Hingeley going just one thousandth of a second slower than Pull. Further improvements saw Sowery, Ben Hingeley and Ahmed join the fight for first as the field spread out further back.
A shock lap from Ahmed saw the 18-year-old the first of three runners to better Pull’s time, as the rain started to move away, allowing Pull to eventually take second back. Elsewhere Jamie Chadwick was forced to pull into the pits early, forfeiting her run.
Ahmed pitted early, but it did not matter as the times failed to improve, allowing the 17-year-old to take another pole position ahead of Pull in second. Hingeley also decided to pit early taking third and pushing Sowery down to fourth.
Throughout most of qualifying, the inter-team battle of Jordan Cane and Callan O’Keeffe kept the Douglas Motorsport fans on their feet, with the latter putting in a late lap to go fifth ahead of his teammate.
Rounding out the top eight would be Das and Nicolai Kjaergaard who had been challenging the top five earlier in the session.
