STARD’s Baumanis and Timerzyanov reach the semi-finals in Canada

This weekend’s round eight of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Canada has fallen short of Austrian team STARD‘s expectations to see either of their drivers, Latvian Janis Baumanis and Russian Timur Timerzyanov, gain a spot in the final, as they did on the past two rounds in Norway and Sweden.

Both of them competed in the semi-finals, as Baumanis was seventh after the four qualifying rounds, and Timerzyanov tenth. In their races, the Latvian finished fifth, and the Russian sixth, which means they actually scored Championship points, despite the fact that neither of them could go any further.

Nevertheless, STARD’s team boss, Austrian former WRC and World RX competitor, Manfred Stohl, is not entirely disappointed with his team’s performance:

“Considering, that Timur reached so far in seven out of eight World Championship races always the semi-final, we have to talk of a positive performance. There is still room for improvement, he can enter the final in each of the races.

“With Janis we noticed during the last races an upward trend. This provides a lot of confidence for the remaining four World Championship races in France, Latvia, Germany and South Africa”

STARD are now looking forward to the next round of the Championship in Lohéac, France, 2-3 September.
