Kimi Räikkonen admitted his Scuderia Ferrari team have “some work to do” but he was satisfied with how Friday went ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Finnish driver was fourth fastest in both Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 2 behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel and both Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen in the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing.

Räikkonen admitted it was a standard Friday at the Hungaroring and while the conditions were not perfect, the aim was still to learn as much as possible ahead of the weekend.

“It was a very normal Friday trying things and learning as much as possible,” said Räikkonen.  “The conditions were not very easy in many ways, but it’s normal on a Friday.”

The 2007 world champion was quick to state that gathering information was the aim today and to not pay much attention to the lap times he or his rivals were setting.  Räikkonen still believes there is work still to be done to improve the car but is optimistic about being where he wants to be in qualifying.

“We don’t really pay too much attention to the lap times, they really don’t count in a practice session,” said the Finn, who has finished on the podium in each of the past four Grand Prix, including last weekend at the Hockenheimring.  “For sure we still have some work to do, but it was not too bad and the car worked as we expected.

“Hopefully tomorrow we’ll have the speed we need.”
