Bentley Motorsport has signed one of Asia’s leading racing outfits, Phoenix Racing Asia, as its latest partner team to campaign the new Continental GT3. Together, Bentley Motorsport and Phoenix Racing Team Asia will contest the Blancpain GT Asia Series starting with the Shanghai round later this year.

After twice winning the GT Asia Series, Bentley Motorsport was keen to conquer the newest GT3 championship in the region, Blancpain GT Series Asia. With several potential customer teams expressing interest in running the new 4.0-litre V8 race car, Bentley began extensive discussions before selecting Phoenix Racing Asia as the partner team for the six-race series that visits Japan, Thailand, China and Malaysia.

The team will join Bentley Motorsport at the Intercontinental GT Challenge 10 Hours of Suzuka on the 25-26 August to develop their knowledge of the new Continental GT3 before taking delivery of their cars for a two-day test. The team will make its race debut in the Blancpain GT Series Asia round in Shanghai on the 22-23 September.

Bentley Motorsport’s Head of Operations Nick Burns said, “Having a leading team represent us in Blancpain GT Series Asia was extremely important to us. It’s an incredibly tough series but we believe Phoenix Racing Asia has what it takes to win races. We have engaged with the team, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them to Suzuka for the 10-hour race, we believe that close co-operation is key to global success.”

Team owner and driver Marchy Lee, who won last season’s GT3 Silver Cup title with Shaun Thong, sees the new partnership with Bentley as confirmation of Phoenix Racing Asia’s stature within the region.

“I feel very proud that a manufacturer as prestigious as Bentley has chosen a young team like Phoenix Racing Asia as an official partner,” he said. “They see much potential in us, but hopefully also the same attributes that characterise their brand. We aim to be the very best at everything we do as a race team, and – having been shown behind the scenes at Bentley earlier this week – I think that’s something we both share.

“The new Continental GT3 also looks fantastic and has already demonstrated its potential in Europe; it is the perfect partnership as we begin the next chapter in Phoenix Racing Asia’s history.”

The Phoenix Racing Asia partnership will take the number of Bentley racing teams competing in Asia to three, as they join Super GT teams Eicars OTT and est Cola by AAS.
