Gronholm ready for the challenge of Trois-Rivières

The month long break in the 2018 World Rallycross Championship has given the GRX Taneco squad a chance to recharge and prepare for the seventh round of the season: The 2018 World RX of Canada.

The team has revised its target for the second part of the campaign as it hopes to see both of the former WRC Hyundai i20 Supercars qualify for the final of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.

For Niclas Gronholm, the mid season break gave him a chance to enjoy his Motorsport as a fan on home turf.

“I used the break to relax a little, enjoy some time with my family and do plenty of sport. I stayed at home where the weather has been great, and I even attended Rally Finland,” explained the Finnish driver.

Whilst the nature of the classic Trois-Rivières street circuit is very different to other more conventional Rallycross circuits such as Loheac and Montalegre, the challenge of the walls being so close is one that Gronholm looks forward to.

“The race in Canada is run on quite a different circuit to what we have had so far. It is a long track with a long straight and tight turns between the walls. It’s quite an unusual setup in Rallycross but that doesn’t bother me,” said the former Finnish Rallycross Champion.

“It should be a great race and I really hope to secure a good result to get the second half of the season off to a flying start.”
