The 2018 World RX of Canada saw a resurgence in form for Niclas Gronholm, where the young Finnish driver had been the man to take the fight to the Works Teams in the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship

His good start to the weekend helped a lot by setting the fourth fastest time in Q1 and then going on to end Saturday’s running in sixth place overall. The GRX Taneco driver was impressed with his work so far.

Considering the mediocre practice, my Q1 time was a surpriseI kept pace with Mattias Ekström and banked a reasonable time. It’s always a boost to make a good start,” explained Gronholm.

After ending Qualifying overall in seventh place after Sunday saw an increase in the on track pace, the Hyundai driver qualified for the Semi-Finals and was looking good for a place in the Supercar Final.

However due to an issue on the former WRC Hyundai, Gronholm missed out on a place by three tenths of a second. Despite this, he takes away the positives from the weekend as the series moves on to the 2018 World RX of France in a few weeks time.

I’m disappointed with my semi-final. I got off to a bad start and then had steering issues, so I wasn’t in the running for a place in the final.”

“All the same, it was a good weekend, with reasonable time in all rounds and thanks to the team, the car felt really good. We’re building our confidence and I’m looking forward to the French round in a few weeks.
