BRDC British F3 Championship leader Linus Lundqvist topped Free Practice ahead of the sixth round of the year. With a time of 1:22.896, the Double R Racing driver was over half a second slower than the same sessions benchmark from last year.
As the drivers experienced the Brands Hatch GP circuit for the first time it would be interesting to see which of them could carry over their pace from the Indy tests over the previous two days.
Lundqvist set off where finished, topping the timings during his qualifying runs and becoming the only driver to drop below the 1 minute 22 second barrier. It proved to be a strong circuit for the Double R Racing drivers with Krishnaraaj Mahadik also challenging the top three for much of the session.
In the end, the Carlin vs Double R storyline continued as Nicolai Kjaergaard ended a quiet session with a flurry of quick laps. His efforts were not enough to depose Jamie Caroline though, as the super-sub continues to prove a threat for Lundqvist, just 0.307 seconds behind. Mahadik would be third overall.
As Kjaergaard fell to fourth, Tom Gamble chose to enter the pits early still picking up fifth from Billy Monger. The double amputee is on good form after picking up his second podium of the year at Spa-Francorchamps last time out and could be a threat in the opening race.
Rounding out the top eight was Kush Maini as his dismal performance of late continues, with Friday’s star man Sun Yue Yang, 0.836 seconds off the leader.
