Scott Speed carried on his fine from from the opening day of round three of the 2018 Americas Rallycross season by completing a clean sweep of his qualifying races.
The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver bettered team mate Tanner Foust in Q3, before beating Subaru driver Chris Atkinson’s time in the final round of heats.
The perfect score gives him pole position for the first semi-final, while Ken Block’s second place standing in qualifying gives him the prime position for the second semi-final.
Atkinson finished up in third, ahead of Steve Arpin and Foust – who recorded another DNF in Q4 after suffering right-front suspension failure. He beat Patrik Sandell, who was last of the regular season runners.
There was a close battle between Rene Munnich, Jacques Villeneuve, and Oliver Bennett for the final two semi-final berths, but Bennett was the casualty of the wildcard battle. Munnich finished qualifying in seventh, with Villeneuve – who has got faster with every session – in eighth.
Oliver Bennett missed the final round of qualifying after a turbo failure at the end of Q3 left his Mini smouldering and him on the sidelines for the rest of the day
