Scott Speed leads qualifying for round three of the 2018 Americas Rallycross series at Trois-Rivières after winning his opening two heat races.
The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross driver took a maximum 100 points from his qualifiers, notching up a fastest time of 3minutes 28.274s in the opening race.
Speed heads Ken Block, who was second to the ex-Formula 1 man in both Q1 and Q2. Block’s team mate Steve Arpin lies third at the end of the first day, level with Subaru’s Chris Atkinson.
Silverstone winner Tanner Foust sits in fifth place over night, but only just. The two-time Global Rallycross champion was third in Q1, but failed the finish Q2 after hitting a concrete wall hard after contact with Block.
Foust emerged from the shunt okay, but it is unknown whether he will be able to continue tomorrow with his Volkswagen Beetle sustaining heavy damage.
Oliver Bennett finished the day in sixth, ahead of the returning Rene Munnich, while Patrik Sandell lies in eighth as a result of also failing to finish Q2 due to being caught up in the Foust incident.
Jacquess Villeneuve, making his ARX debut in the third Subaru entry, is currently bottom of the standings after finishing Q1 in seventh, and recording a DNF in Q2 due to suspension damage.
