24-year-old Cian Carey will make his BRDC British F3 Championship debut this weekend with the Chris Dittmann Racing team.

After making a few test appearances in the Tatuus car, he steps up with the team that has already helped him to six wins this year in the MSV F3 Cup. He will race this weekend at Donington, becoming the fourth driver to appear with the team this season.

Carey currently leads the F3 Cup standings, but has also found success in his native Ireland, winning the BOSS Ireland Championship in 2016 racing in Formula Renault machinery. He secured the Irish Young Driver of the Year award in the same season, before picking up the Leinster Trophy last year.

“I’m absolutely delighted to finally get out in BRDC British F3,” he commented. “I have had my eye on the championship for the past few years and have been working extremely hard to get this opportunity.

“Really, none of this would be possible if it wasn’t for Chris Dittmann and my sponsors F Brazil Reinforcements, Mooretown Engineering and Motorsport Ireland.”

CDR did not appear at the last round with recent signing Ayrton Simmons chosing to focus on his British F4 title bid. Simmons though will return for this penultimate round to partner the Irishman.

“Chris has seen my potential over the past two seasons in F3 Cup and has given me the chance this weekend at Donington. I’m aware that I will be joining in the deep end, but I’m up for the challenge and am fully focused on getting good results for myself and Chris Dittmann Racing.”

He currently leads the F3 Cup by 27 points with two meetings remaining.

Team principal Chris Dittmann also commented, saying; “We’re very pleased to have Cian move up to BRDC British F3 this weekend.

“We obviously know him very well from working together these past two years, and he has developed very strongly in F3 Cup, which is demonstrated by his clear championship lead this season.”
