Marcus Ericsson felt it was a decent race for him at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday, even if he was unable to better eleventh at the chequered flag.

The Swede start on the Ultrasoft Pirelli tyre that proved to be the best option for those starting outside the top ten, and once the drivers who started on the Hypersoft began to pit, the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team racer began to make gains.

He was also able to capitalise on Sergey Sirotkin acting as a roadblock to gain track position on a number of drivers, although it was still not enough to score a fourth top-ten finish of the campaign, finishing just shy of Renault Sport Formula One Team’s Nico Hülkenberg.

Ericsson was pleased not to make any mistakes in what was a gruelling race in Singapore, but leaving without any points to show for his efforts was frustrating, particularly as team-mate Charles Leclerc achieved a ninth place finish on Sunday.

“It was a pretty good race today,” said Ericsson.  “The pace was good and there were no mistakes made. Despite that, it is a bit frustrating to have finished in P11, so close to the points.

“We gave a strong performance, but could not fight for P10 anymore after coming back out onto the track behind the leading cars following our pitstop.

“Nevertheless, we did a good job as a team and will fight back in Sochi.”
