Tatiana Calderón will drive the DS E-TENSE FE19 for the DS Techeetah Formula E team at the in-season test the day following the inaugural Riyadh E-Prix and the first round of the 2018-19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship on Sunday 16 December at Ad Diriyah in Saudi Arabia
Calderón has had a successful motorsport career, competing in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship for three seasons (2013-15) and later in the GP3 Series from 2016. This year she was announced as official test and development driver for the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team and drove the C37 for the first time a few weeks ago at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez following the Mexican GP.
This should be an exciting opportunity for Calderón and after having huge diversity in the categories she has competed in, she should prove a useful tool for the DS Techeetah team to help better unlock the potential of their brand-new Gen-2 racer. This test will be crucial for the team, making Calderón’s efforts all the more important after the very first race of the season.
Both the team principle Mark Preston and Tatiana Calderón herself are very excited about the opportunity.“When the promoter approached us about the opportunity to offer a test session to a talented female racing driver at the first in-season test, we jumped at the opportunity.
“We immediately started thinking about drivers that would be suitable for the test, and Tatiana was on top of our list. She’s incredibly talented and we think she will do a stellar job at the test with the experience she is able to bring. It’s also very exciting to be able to showcase the wonderful world of Formula E with a first-hand experience of testing the DS E-TENSE FE19 on track.
“I’m hoping that it will give her a taste for the series and I hope to see her racing in Formula E in the near future,”
He is hopeful that this can be simply a stepping stone to helping Calderón competing in the all-electric championship.
“I’m incredibly eager to test the DS E-TENSE FE19 in December.” said Calderón. “Formula E is a really exciting space and it’s great to be able to get a sense of the series through the test.
“It will be the first time that I will drive a fully-electric racing car on track, so I’m curious to find out how I will have to adapt my driving style to drive the car in the most efficient way.
“I’m thrilled to be working with DS TECHEETAH following their successful results last season and I’m looking forward to helping them with their work at first in-season test”.
