Despite being 23 points behind Sébastien Ogier in the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship drivers standings, Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team’s Ott Tänak “will not give up” in his pursuit of a maiden WRC title.

Tänak, who had been leading Rally de España until Saturday morning, salvaged sixth by the end of the event and the Estonian also won the Power Stage and five championship points to keep his title hopes alive.

The Estonian said on his Power Stage win: “I had more or less nothing to lose. OK, we still needed to finish but I pushed very hard as it was my only chance to stay mathematically in the championship fight.”

“I did all I could and we will not give up. We also still have a strong position in the manufacturers’ championship.”

The final round of the 2018 FIA World Rally Championship, Kennards Hire Rally Australia, takes place between November 15-18, with Tänak, Ogier and Thierry Neuville the three drivers in contention for the 2018 title.
