Sérgio Sette Câmara is to join McLaren F1 Team next season as part of their McLaren Young Driver Programme.

Sette Câmara will be the team’s 2019 test and development driver as they aim to move up the grid next season.

The Brazilian is currently racing in the Formula 2 World Championship where he sits sixth in the drivers standings after taking eight podium finishes with one race remaining.

The Carlin driver currently partners 2019 McLaren driver Lando Norris and has one win to his name after taking victory at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps last season with MP Motorsport.

It’s my dream to one day become a Formula 1 driver, and I’d like to thank McLaren for giving me this incredible opportunity.

“My aim is to integrate myself in the team and work as closely with them as possible; to listen, learn and help to develop as a driver, as well as support McLaren.”

McLaren sporting director Gil de Ferran is delighted to have the twenty year old on board and is looking forward to him developing his skills with the team.

“We’re delighted to welcome Sérgio to McLaren and our Young Driver Programme.

“We’ve been following his progress for some time and believe he is a promising young talent with a real potential.

“We’re looking forward to working with him to develop his skills as a well-rounded driver, while having him support our racing operations.”
